Japan 8.9 earthquake made tsunami may hit 53 countries. A powerful 8.9 magnitude earthquake shook 382km north east of Tokyo in Japan on Friday 11 March 2011. The massive quake, measured 8.9 Richter scale, set off a massive tsunami, explosions and fires. It pummeled the area with a wall of water. The country issued its most serious tsunami warning, saying a wave as high as 4-meter wall of water could strike inland near the Miyagi prefecture coast. In this video clip you can see the homes and shops rock, shake and wash away. Buildings, cars and ships were also swept by the raging waters. There were several fires along Japan's eastern coastline, and six million homes are without power. Japanese government ordered an emergency response team to tackle the disaster with aircraft scrambled to the worst-affected area. Communication is crippled and Tokyo's Norita international airport was closed. The entire Pacific region (between the western USA and Russia, and eastern Asia) is on tsunami alert - with Hawaii, Canada, Alaska, Califoria, Oregan, Washington, Guan, Taiwan, and the Philippines may face the raging water waves. Some 53 Pacific basin countries may be hit, all the way to Colombia and Peru. The Japan quake was less than three weeks after the Christchurch quake, which killed at least 166 people.
